(Riverton, Wyo.) – The 19-year-old student from Central Wyoming College who is being investigated for making violent threats against another student, and who was found with a cache of weapons on campus, violated CWC Policy.
According to a statement from the college today, “The student was suspended from school and evicted from campus housing. Guns are not allowed on the campus though students who have guns for hunting can have them locked in a secured area.”
The student had made various and explicit threats against another student via text message very early on Wednesday morning. When contacted by police, the student who had made the threats was found to have weapons in his truck on campus, including a loaded Glock .40 handgun, an AR-15 .223 caliber rifle, a Benelli Super Nova 12 gauge shotgun, a Ten Point Total Extrme Crossbow with an Accudraw assist system, a large Machete style knife with a 14 inch blade and a black ballistic vest. (Read the initial report on the incident here.)
Police Captain Eric Murphy said today that even though the student was apparently a member of the Police Explorers, they are not issued ballistic vests for ride-alongs or as part of their uniform. Campus security and RPD still have the matter under investigation.
