(Lander, Wyo.) – This week local volunteers are putting together hundreds of baskets for Fremont County families in need.
You can join the efforts this week at Holy Rosary’s Boeseke Hall.
Volunteers are welcome to help organize the food tonight (Tuesday) from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Or, you can help fill the baskets Thursday from 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. or Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
This year’s event was coordinated by Nancy and Bill Sniffin, Deanna Trumble, Kevin Green and Jim and Donna Orr.
Nancy Sniffin estimates there may be 300 or more families in need who will benefit from the baskets this year. Last year, individuals, families, groups and organizations donated money, food and gifts as the project achieved and surpassed its goal of providing baskets to Lander families. The donations have always been impressive. Many donations are made in the memory of loved ones who have died.
The baskets are delivered each year by members of the Lander Elks Lodge #2317 and their families. The Elks also help buy turkeys and donate toys each year. They’ll deliver this year’s baskets on Sunday, Dec. 15 starting at about 11:30 a.m. Recipients need to be home at this time. This is the only delivery time. If families can’t meet this delivery time should contact either Ms. Trumble or Mrs. Sniffin at the phone numbers below to arrange for another delivery time.
The organizers set a goal of $5,000 this year for the baskets. Persons, individuals, groups, organizations and churches may contribute to the program by sending their checks to “Christmas Baskets,” P.O. Box 900, Lander, WY 82520. Names of donors will be published each week.
