(Lander, Wyo.) – The annual meeting of the LEADER Corp. in Lander  is scheduled for this coming Wednesday morning at 7 a.m. at the Oxbow Restaurant. In advance of that session, however, the new Lander Economic Development group will host a public presentation this Sunday, Dec. 8th, at the Cowfish beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The new group, spearheaded by city council member Cade Maestas and his business partner Mike Lilygren, told the Lander Rotary Club last month that the current economic development in the city “is not broken, but if you wait until it is broken, you’re behind. We need a robust base here in Lander.” The pair said they are interested in building a business friendly community for Lander’s future, “not that we are not business friendly, but we want to increase the quality of life here and bring in outside dollars to bolster our community to enhance and grow the town.” Their ideas on how to do that is the topic of Sunday’s presentation.

Co-Presidents Dave Kellogg and Bill Sniffin said LEADER shareholders would elect their officers for the 2013-14 fiscal year at the Wednesday morning meeting and that only shareholders could participate in that portion of the meeting. Afterwards, a public session will be held to discuss the structure of what Kellogg and Sniffin have termed the “Complimentary Economic Development group” and how it would relate to LEADER. That is the effort being undertaken by Maestas and Lilygren.

LEADER Corporation is a Lander-based Economic Development organization that holds monthly meetings to inform the public on events and projects that affect the economies of Lander, Riverton and Fremont County. LEADER also provides assistance for new businesses that will bring development and jobs to the area.
