(Riverton, Wyo.) – More than $2.8 million in road improvements are under way on Riverview Road in Riverton.
Prime contractor Jerry Bornhoft Construction, Inc., of Riverton is currently working off the sides of the existing roadway in preparation for building a new box culvert where Riverview crosses over the Riverton Valley Irrigation District canal.
“The contractor is currently grading, removing topsoil and clearing and grubbing as it prepares to work on the new canal crossing,” according to Robert Scheidemantel, Wyoming Department of Transportation resident engineer in Riverton.
Scheidemantel said the contractor plans to work through the winter to replace the canal crossing by about April 1.
“We’re also expecting the contractor will be working to replace the irrigation siphon structure this winter,” Scheidemantel said. “The driving surface of the existing roadway will not be removed prior to next spring.”
Working hours of Bornhoft Construction are 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Traffic will be allowed to pass through the project from 6:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. between Monday and Friday without being stopped by flaggers. During the remainder of the work week, travelers may see traffic delays of up to 15 minutes.
Scheidemantel said citizens are invited to attend a 1 p.m. work progress meeting every Thursday beginning Oct. 31 at the City of Riverton’s Public Works Building on Monroe Avenue.
The contractor’s scope of work includes grading, draining, milling existing asphalt, placing crushed gravel base, asphalt paving, chip sealing, removal of the existing Riverton Valley Irrigation District canal bridge, curb and gutter, water main replacement, sanitary sewer and electrical improvements, fencing and other work on .94 miles of Riverview Road beginning at milepost 2.16 in the City of Riverton between Rein Road and Augusta Drive.
Riverview Road will be reconstructed and straightened with an improved canal crossing and safer intersection being constructed at the bottom of Hill Street.
“Please slow down through the work zone,” Scheidemantel said.
The Wyoming Transportation Commission awarded the Riverview Road project to Bornhoft Construction in July.
Funding for the project is being provided by the City of Riverton, Fremont County and the WYDOT Urban Systems Program. Fremont County’s portion of the Riverview Road project is being funded through the county’s share of additional 1-cent sales tax funds.
Contract completion date is Sept. 30, 2014.
