SCAM alert: Attorney and County Clerks Office say Ignore “Deed Processing Notice”

Above is a redacted copy of the “Deed Processing Notice.”

(Fremont County, Wyo.) – The Fremont County Clerks office and a local attorney are advising county property owners to ignore an official looking “Deed Processing Notice” that has been showing up in local mailboxes.

“My clients have been receiving this official looking notice saying a copy of their “Grant Deed” can be obtained for a fee of $83,” said Riverton attorney Bill Winter. “In reality, property owners can get a copy of their deed at the courthouse for probably $5 or less.”

The county clerks office in Lander said they charge 50¢ a page for deeds. “We’ve been getting a lot of calls about this, and people have been bringing in the notice,” said Raeline Stanker in the clerk’s office. “We’ve been suggesting people look up the scam on the Internet for specific details of how the scam operates and to ignore the mailing.”

I gave all my money to a Nigerian prince so he could wire his family's fortune into my account before an aggressive guerrilla army takes over his Marion's capital anyway. Whew! That was a close one! What sucker would fall for such an obvious scam?
