(Riverton, Wyo.) – A new helipad at Riverton Memorial Hospital will be dedicated on Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m. near the facility’s Emergency Room. “The additional helipad allows increased access to air ambulances for transferring patients who need advanced medical treatment not currently provided at RMH,” according to a hospital news release.
The new helipad was built in partnership with Classic Lifeguard Aeromedical, an air ambulance company with both a fixed-wing and a helicopter based at Riverton Regional Airport. According to the news release, Classic Lifeguard intends to maintain a helicopter on the helipad when available, which could reduce average times needed to transfer patients to outside medical facilities.
“The new helipad is a winning situation for Riverton Memorial Hospital and patients needing emergency health care in Fremont County,” said Steve Erixon, CEO for RMH and Lander Regional Hospital. “Not only does the partnership increase our access to emergency transportation, but also, the additional space allows RMH to handle larger emergency situations more effectively.”
RMH also maintains a secondary helipad on the southwest corner of the facility. “I’ve never been at a hospital that had two helipads,” Erixon said earlier this year when plans for the second one was announced.
Classic Lifeguard also maintains a helicopter at Lander Regional Hospital when it is not otherwise on duty. That new helipad, also in partnership with Classic Lifeguard, was added just outside of the LRH Emergency Room last year.
