(Riverton, Wyo.) – Every shot mattered.
Over 50 children came out to play in a one day basketball tournament to help raise funds for children in need. Hoops for Tots held the games on October 5 at Great Plains Hall in Arapahoe, Wyo. Six teams with players all under the age of 10 hit the floor at 10 a.m. and ended the tournament at 7 p.m. A solid crowd came out to cheer on and encourage the next generation of athletes.
The Lil’ Cougars won the championship game against the LB Ballers with a final score of 26 to 11. Community volunteers helped referee, sell concession goodies and raffle tickets for a Wind River Hotel and Casino donation basket. Each player also walked away with a brand new basketball.
All funds raised during the games will go towards Slots for Tots which is an annual slot tournament held every December at the Wind River Hotel and Casino.
In its fifth year, Slots for Tots has helped over 1,000 children in foster care receive a Christmas present. Last year, 794 children received a gift. All presents were delivered to the Northern Arapaho Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, and the Northern Arapaho and Riverton Department of Family Services. Each agency then wraps each present and delivers the gifts before Christmas. This year’s Slot for Tots is set for December 7, 2013.
