(Lander, Wyo.) - The two missing youth near Louis Lake have been found alive, according to Sheriff Skip Hornecker who said the boys were located around 5:15 p.m. this afternoon.
The boys had gone to set up an elk hunting camp on Wednesday, but they failed to return home. An initial search was launched Wednesday night, but search and rescue teams were turned back due to bad weather and white-out conditions on the mountain. The S&R effort began again this morning and the boy’s truck was found around 11 a.m. but the boys were not there. Neither were their hunting rifles.
Hornecker said the two high school buddies were a bit disoriented and chilled, but that rescuers were beginning to get them to shelter and warmed up. The two were identified as George Case and Tyson Sollars.
Searchers were concerned because it had begun to snow on the mountain as a second major storm entered the area this afternoon. Hornecker said the incident has a happy ending, but he also said it should serve as a cautionary tale for all hunters planning to go into the mountains. “Be prepared for bad weather and let people know where you are going,” he said.
More details on the search effort are to be released Friday morning and we’ll have them reported right here on County10.com
