(Riverton, Wyo.) – The 22 percent of Fremont County residents who do not have health insurance can begin enrolling in the Health Insurance Marketplace under the Affordable Care Act, or ObamaCare, effective tomorrow, Oct. 1st. Nationally, 16 percent of Americans do not have health insurance. To help those who are looking for quality affordable healthcare, there are several locations in Riverton that can help.
Karla Borders is the Navigator Marketplace Program Manager for Fremont, Hot Springs, Bighorn and Washakie Counties. She’s located at Wyoming Senior Citizens, Inc., at 106 West Adams Avenue. Information on the Marketplace is also available at the Fremont Community Health Center at 511 North 12th Street East.
What is the Health Insurance Marketplace? Borders said the Marketplace is a destination where consumers can compare insurance options in simple, easy to understand language. Using a handout that describes the program, Borders said consumers can log on to HealthCare.gov to find information about the process. She said consumers would be able to compare insurance options based on price, benefits, quality and other factors. “It will give them a clear picture of what premiums would be and what cost sharing options are available.” Borders said that financial help is also available for those who qualify.
An individual with an income of less than $45,960 or a family of four with an income less than $94,200 can quality for insurance in the marketplace.
Eligible residents will be able to enroll in a health plan to get coverage that starts in January 2014 through the Marketplace.
“There are four options the uninsured can use to contact this office for help in navigating through the process,” Borders said, “by phone, mail, fax or on-line.” She said a number of public sessions are also being planned to explain the program and help people enroll. Those sessions will be publicized after they are set. Enrollment in the marketplace will be open for six months, ending on March 31, 2014. “I certainly don’t encourage people to wait that long,” she said.
