300 coming to Lander for annual WACO convention; Governor and other state officers attending on Thursday
(Lander, Wyo.) – This week approximately 300 people from across the state are coming to Lander for the 86th annual Wyoming Association of County Officers convention.
The convention starts today, Sept. 24 and runs through Friday, Sept. 27. Fremont County is hosting this year’s and next year’s conventions, and the majority of the events this week will be held at the Best Western.
Throughout the week various associations of clerks, assessors, attorneys, coroners, treasurers, sheriffs and others will be meeting.
This year’s WACO President is Fremont County Clerk Julie Freese (above). She said the annual WACO convention is a good time for the state’s elected county officials to get together, talk about issues, share ideas and learn from each other.
On Thursday morning, Gov. Matt Mead, Secretary of State Max Maxfield, State Auditor Cynthia Cloud, State Treasurer Mark Gordon, and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Cindy Hill will be speaking at the convention. Sen. Eli Bebout, R-Riverton, and Sen. Cale Case, R-Lander, will also speak.
