(Cheyenne, Wyo.) – As a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless acts of violence at the Washington Navy Yard, Governor Matt Mead, pursuant to President Barack Obama’s proclamation, has ordered both the U.S. flag and the State of Wyoming flag be flown at half-staff statewide until sunset September 20, 2013.
According to news reports, at least 12 people were killed this morning at the Navy Yard, which is headquarters for the Naval Sea Systems Command, when at least one man began firing a weapon inside the building. A suspect who was shot dead at the scene has been identified as a 34-year-old former enlisted petty officer who most recently was working for a Navy contractor from Texas. There is no immediate motive for the shootings.
