(Lander, Wyo.) – Thursday’s law enforcement report from across Fremont County. All persons arrested or cited are innocent until they plead guilty or are convicted in a court of law.
Riverton Police Department
Byron Lincoln, 47, Riverton, Public Intoxication
23-year-old male from Casper, Impersonating a Peace Officer. A Riverton Police report indicated the man claimed he was a police officer from Casper in an attempt to keep a friend from being arrested for public intoxication. A check with Casper revealed the man not to be a police officer there and he was cited.
A new transient in town was the subject of four suspicious person reports to the RPD on Wednesday. The man, who was unknown to local merchants, was not violating any laws but he was acting “strange” according to a police report, which resulted in the calls from four separate locations.
A property damage car crash with damage over $1,000 was reported at 3:38 p.m. in the 1000 block of North Federal. The vehicles involved were a silver 2013 Chevrolet vers a tan 2008 Dodge pickup.
A minor property damage fender bender was called in to police at 3:43 p.m. from the Walmart parking lot where one vehicle attempting to park hit another vehicle causing a bumper scratch.
A third property damage crash, and the second where damages exceeded $1,000 was reported at 4:49 p.m. in the 800 block of North Federal between a white 1995 Chevrolet Lumina and a silver 2011 Chevy pickup pulling a flatbed trailer.
A power pole seen to be giving off sparks in the alley of the 900 block of North Broadway resulted in response by the Riverton Fire Department and Rocky Mountain Power at 7:33 p.m.
Fremont County Sheriff’s Office
None reported in the past 24 hours. The Fremont County Detention Center in Lander currently has 166 inmates that it is responsible for. Of these, 149 are being held in the jail, 10 are in substance abuse treatment programs around the state, two are on home detention and five inmates are currently being housed outside of the facility.
Another mailbox bashing incident was reported to the FCSO on Wednesday, this time in the 7000 block of Riverview Road.
A resident in the Lander area called the Sheriff’s Department to report someone not authorized to do so was using her debit card.
Two reported incidents of drug use were reported in the Riverton area on Wednesday. Deputies are investigating both separate reports.
A case of a dog at large and chasing livestock and getting into a fight with the reporting party’s dog was called in at 4:17 p.m. from an address on Fair View Circle in Riverton.
Two individuals in the county reported they were separately being harassed via telephone, text and email messages. The cases are under investigation.
An individual who appeared to be a danger to himself and others was taken into custody under emergency detention Wednesday south of Riverton near the bridge over the Little Wind River.
Lander Police Department
Robert Underwood, 18, Riverton, Shoplifting. A 13-year-old Ethete girl was cited for Shoplifting. Lt. Chuck Carr said police were called to the Family Dollar store at 6:34 p.m. on Wednesday for a report of three subjects concealing items in their clothing. Upon arriving, one female who had exited the store was found to have no stolen items on her. Underwood had concealed in pockets and on his person multiple candy bars and a 20 oz. Cherry Coke, Carr said. With him was the young girl who allegedly had concealed breath strips and chap stick. Underwood was arrested, but the juvenile was just cited.
Joshua Robinson, 21, Lander, Peace Disturbance and Public Intoxication. Carr said police were called at 12:42 a.m. on Thursday to a home on the 500 block of South Fifth Street for a report of a person attempting to remove a screen from a window. Upon making contact Robinson said the home was his grandmother’s and he was trying to get in. Carr said Robinson smelled strongly of alcohol and admitted to drinking. After a while he allegedly began cursing at officers and became uncooperative. He was subsequently arrested.
LPD responded to 14 calls for service from 8 a.m. Wednesday to 8 a.m. on Thursday.
At 1:31 p.m., police were called to Lander Middle School for a report of a smell of marijuana in one of the boys bathrooms. Police located two marijuana pipes on a 12-year-old boy who was later cited with Possession of Marijuana.
