(Dubois, Wyo.) – A 21-year-old Dubois woman has been arrested following a family fight where a shot was fired on Wednesday evening.
Lori Guttke has been arrested and charged with Domestic Battery, Reckless Endangering and Interference with Police. The report of a family fight on the 100 block of Taylor Creek Road came to Deputies at 5:03 p.m.
“When the Deputy arrived in the immediate area he located a male subject sitting on the creek bank; the man advised he had been assaulted by Guttke at that time,” Fremont County Undersheriff Ryan Lee said. “The Deputy was on foot and had to walk back to his truck so that he could drive to the man. As the Deputy entered his truck the man began to yell and then a shot rang out.”
Lee said upon returning to the man’s location, the deputy located Guttke sitting in a truck nearby. Guttke dropped a large caliber handgun out of the window of the truck, and the deputy reportedly had to physically remove her from the vehicle.
“At this point we know that Guttke fired the weapon, the trajectory is unclear,” Lee said. “However there is a good indication the round went to the east towards Taylor Creek Exxon. The firearm involved was a .45/70 caliber handgun which fires a high powered rifle cartridge; the weapon is about 15 inches long and has a 7.5-inch barrel and weighs roughly 4.5 pounds. Guttke was struck in the head by the firearm during the harsh recoil and received minor treatment at the Lander Hospital later that evening.”
The incident, which Lee said appears to have begun at a home, is still under investigation. He said it is unknown at this time why Guttke fired the weapon.
