(Dubois, Wyo.) – On Friday afternoon, a man in Dubois reported to Fremont County Sheriff’s Deputies that a subject from the Fremont County Assessor’s Office had trespassed on his property.
The call came in at 3:52 p.m. on Fir Road. According to the sheriff’s office weekend news release, the man said someone from the assessor’s office had entered his residence without his permission.
Undersheriff Ryan Lee said the report was documented, and the man had made contact with the assessor’s office.
“The assessor is looking into the incident,” Lee said.
Fremont County Assessor Tara Berg responded to the incident in a statement to County10.com.
“We are doing our routine inspection of the Warm Springs area and when we arrived at the property there was a gentleman there who took the field appraisers through the property,” she wrote. “There was also a contractor doing some work and the doors were open. We did not go in uninvited or unannounced.”
The assessor’s office, for purposes of recording property values for tax collection, routinely inspects properties throughout the county. “Property values are based on the physical characteristics of properties and sale prices properties sold within the area,” Berg said.
“The Fremont County Assessor’s office is not able to make appointments with each of the 25,000 properties owners in Fremont County,” she continued. “We publish the areas we are working on our website and leave a notice on the door to let the property owners know we were there.”
