(Riverton, Wyo.) – Chip sealing of more than 22 miles of U.S. 26/287 between Dubois and Diversion Dam is scheduled to begin Monday, July 22 by the Wyoming Department of Transportation. Motorists should expect traffic delays during this important maintenance activity between Riverton and Dubois.

Chip sealing is performed by evenly distributing a thin base of hot oil on an existing pavement surface and then embedding finely graded gravel into it. The gravel is evenly distributed over the seal spray, then rolled into a smooth pavement surface. Leftover gravel is swept off the roadway.

“Please slow down for safety’s sake. Motorists will be led through the work zone behind a pilot vehicle, and it may become dusty at times,” said WYDOT chip sealing foreman Shane Wilson of Thermopolis. “We appreciate everyone’s patience during this important work, which cost-effectively extends the life of our highways.”
Togwotee Pass

Chip sealing of the Rosie’s Ridge project on the Togwotee Trail (U.S. 26/287) west of Dubois is also scheduled to begin Monday, July 22.

Travelers should expect stop delays of up to 15 minutes on the west side of Togwotee Pass during the scheduled chip-sealing process on July 22-24.

Chip sealing of the Rosie’s Ridge section of U.S. 26/287 will complete 38 miles of highway improvements in the Togwotee Trail corridor between Dubois and Moran Junction that has been ongoing for the past seven years.

Big Horn Basin

WYDOT’s chip sealing effort is scheduled to continue during August in the Big Horn Basin. Sealing is scheduled on U.S. 14 between Greybull and Shell, and near Burgess Junction; Wyoming 295 near Willwood; Wyoming 32 and Wyoming 33 near Lovell; Wyoming 120 north of Cody; and U.S. 16 between Worland and Ten Sleep.
