(Update at 10:20 p.m., July 19: Pierce has been located alive. See the report here.)
(Riverton, Wyo.) – The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office is asking for locals’ help in finding a missing and endangered 75-year-old.
Undersheriff Ryan Lee said on Friday afternoon that Roger Pierce of rural Riverton was reported missing on Wednesday, July 17. Lee said the man was last seen at his home on Tunnel Hill Road on Friday, July 12. Pierce is a white male, 5′ 8″ and 180 pounds. He has gray hair.
Pierce is believed to be driving a 2004 white Ford F350 single cab dually flat bed truck with Wyoming license plates 10-28540.
“Authorities began an investigation into his possible whereabouts on Thursday,” Lee said in a news release. “After contacting numerous family and friends of Mr. Pierce, the Sheriff’s Office has concluded that Mr. Pierce is a missing person at this time. This morning several areas in the southern portion of Fremont County were searched via airplane, to include the Bison Basin area. Mr. Pierce is known to frequent small rural towns and local ranches in the area.”
“Authorities believe Mr. Pierce maybe suffering from a condition that is affecting his mental judgment and/or decision-making abilities,” Lee wrote. “There is a possibility that Mr. Pierce was attempting to travel from Riverton to Evantson, Wyo., to visit family, however this is only speculation.”
Searches will continue this afternoon in the Oregon Buttes area, Lee said, noting that the family has provided ideas of areas Pierce could be. “After that we do not have any definitive places to search in Fremont County at this time,” Lee said.
Anyone who may have seen Pierce or his vehicle in the last week are asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 856-7200.
