(Riverton, Wyo.) – Entries are now being taken for the celebration parade for the 100th Fremont County Fair and Rodeo. The parade is the major lead-off event for the week-long, July 27th through August 3rd Fair. It will roll through downtown Riverton from the starting point at the Central Wyoming College parking lot on West Main Street.
“I am really hoping for a spectacular parade,” said parade chair Mary Ellen Christensen. “It’s the 100th anniversary of the fair and it’s an opportunity to celebrate living in Fremont County whether they’ve been here 100 years or 1 year.”
Christensen said anyone can enter and that the floats do not need to be elaborate. “I’d urge friends, groups, organizations, neighbors, and businesses, anyone, to put something together to celebrate,” she said.
There are 11 parade categories that will be judges and awarded prizes. They are:
Agriculture, Automobiles, Commercial, Equine, Native American, Musical, Political, Service Club, Religious, and Youth. “Something new this year is that we have a special award for an outstanding political entry if they do something extra besides ride in a vehicle,” she laughed.
Awards will include Best of Category, Best Theme and awards for Large, Medium and Small Youth entries.
The deadline to enter is the Wednesday prior to the parade, “but we’ll accept entries up until the parade begins, they’ll just be at the end of the parade,” Christensen said.
“I would really like to see a lot of entries this year, with the centennial of the fair and all,” she said. “I think that will stimulate many new entries. Let’s show off what we have in the county. Put together and entry and join us.”
Christensen also noted that new this year, is that the Fair will begin as soon as the parade ends. “The exhibit halls will be open right after the parade so we’ll have a full week of fair activities. It’s going to be great.”
The parade coordinator also said parade goers can expect to have a few surprises in the lineup, but she’s keeping that under her hat. “Just come and enjoy it,” she said.
For information, call Christensen at 307-240-1188 or stop by the Fremont County Fair Office on South Federal in Riverton.
County 10 has already signed up for the parade, so we’ll see you there.
