Casper man was victim in yesterday’s fatal motorcycle crash; Cause of the wreck is still under investigation

(Updated at 12:15 p.m.)

(Lander, Wyo.) – Wyoming Highway Patrol announced this morning that the man killed in yesterday afternoon’s fatal motorcycle versus semi wreck near Lander was from Casper.

Sgt. Steve Townsend released a news report on the wreck and said the man has been identified as 59-year-old Barry Strang. Strang was riding a 2013 Harley Davidson he had reportedly just purchased in Lander. He was reportedly wearing a helmet.

Jack Kincaid, 62, of Lander, was the driver of the tractor trailer combination involved in the wreck. Kincaid was not hospitalized.

Officials were called to the wreck on Highway 789 just north of Lander at 3:23 p.m. on Thursday. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The highway was closed for a couple hours due to the investigation.

Townsend released the following information: “Strang was northbound and was driving in the passing lane on WYO 789. Kincaid was also northbound and was in the driving lane pulling two semi trailers. Both vehicles were in the process of negotiating a right hand curve in the roadway when for unknown reasons, Strang’s motorcycle turned to the right colliding with the drive axles of Kincaid’s truck tractor. Upon impact Strang was totally ejected from the motorcycle and went under Kincaid’s tractor trailer combination.

“The cause of the crash remains under investigation and Troopers are investigating unfamiliarity with the motorcycle as a contributing factor. Strang had just purchased the motorcycle brand new and had driven a distance of 3 miles when he was involved in the crash.”

Additional agencies who arrived include, but might not be limited to: Fremont County Ambulance, Lander Police Department, Lander Rural Fire Department, Fremont County Sheriff’s Office and Wyoming Department of Transportation.

More details will be added as the become available.
