Over three dozen volunteers worked to erect Shoshoni’s new playground equipment on Saturday

(Shoshoni, Wyo.) – Many volunteers showed up at Travis Park in Shoshoni on Saturday to help construct a new children’s playground. Tommorw (April 29th) is the big day for the kids said Jennifer James, coordinator of the Shoshoni #24 Recreation District.  “Youngsters cannot play on the playground until Monday so that the concrete has time to set, but we are very excited to have such a great playground in Shoshoni and can’t wait to see the kids enjoying it.”

According to James,  the project was funded by grants. “KaBoom gave us the big grant for this project,” she said. “We also got grants from Encana and Wyoming Community Foundation. We are waiting to hear about a grant from the Fremont County Recreation Board.”

The new playground equipment was purchased from Children’s Playstructures. “They came in and coordinated the build for us, and a big thank you to Dan Casey and Erin Starr from Children’s Playstructures. They did an AMAZING job, James said. “We also had food donated from The Fast Lane in Shoshoni, Clark’s Meat House in Riverton, Tweeds in Riverton and Schwans.”

James said the project could never had been done without all the volunteers in the Shoshoni community. “We had people coming and going and helping all day,” she said. “There were approximately 40 volunteers working from 8am until 5:30 p.m.”

The Shoehoni Recreation District also put on a 5K Run to benefit the playground. The sponsors of the 5K were Wyoming Community Bank, Sanjel, Pepsi, Smith’s, Kmart, Renew Fitness and Brunton. “Scott Peters, the town Mayor, also gave a generous donation towards the playground,” James said.
