Cold Tuesday morning? Yes, it was. Record low temperature set in Lander, tied in Riverton
(Riverton, Wyo.) – The National Weather Service Forecast Office in Riverton has confirmed what most residents of the Wind River Basin were thinking early Tuesday. It was cold!
Lander set a new record cold temperature for the date with a morning reading of 10°F, five degrees colder than the previous low on this day of 15°F set in 1963. Riverton’s low of 13°F tied its record low for the date, which had also been set in 1963.
The NWS said the culprit was a cold Canadian storm system that brought snow across the region on Monday. Due to the fresh snow and colder air from the system, the record low temperatures were recorded. The chilly mornings around the area were also the coldest recorded this late in the season at Casper, Rock Springs, Worland, Cody and Kemmerer.
Record low temperatures around the region set this morning included 9° at Casper, 11° at Rock Springs, 4° at Worland, 8° at Buffalo, -2° at Big Piney, -2° at Pinedale, 9° at Jackson Hole Airport, 10° at the Cody airport, and 8° at Kemmerer.
