(Lander, Wyo.) – Tomorrow a group of locals will be distributing free books in Lander and Riverton as part of the annual World Book Night celebration.
Local organizer Amanda Winchester said publishers and authors have donated books and royalties to the program so that books may be distributed nationwide, for free, to encourage reading.
According to its website, World Book Night’s goal is “spreading the love of reading, person to person.”
Winchester said the books are by no-name authors either. New York Times best sellers are among the items being given away. Authors represented are Tina Fey, David Sedaris, Ray Bradbury, John Grisham and more.
Roughly 18 volunteers will be out and about tomorrow handing out books. Among the locations where givers are expected to be are grocery stores, Lander Middle School, Fort Washakie and the hospitals in both Lander and Riverton. Some volunteers will be walking door-to-door on Lander’s Main Street.
Winchester said 360 books will be given out this year in Fremont County. She said this is an increase over last year, and she hopes to continue to grow the event locally.
