(Midvale, Wyo.) – There was no wind, but a slash pile of sagebrush being burned on the Ross Thornock place Sunday afternoon just off of the Eight Mile Road in Central Fremont County spread to a neighboring pasture and resulted in a grass fire call to the Fremont County Fire Protection District just after 2:15 p.m.

Midvale and Missouri Valley firefighters responded and kept the fire to several acres. The fire burned close to a nearby residence, and a haystack, but neither were threatened.

“It’s the first time I haven’t called in a controlled burn,” Thornock said. “There was no wind, but it just took off.” As firefighters mopped up the hot spots, Thornock resumed building a fence next to the scene.
