(Lander, Wyo.) – Three finalists have been identified for the director’s position at the Fremont County Pioneer Museum in Lander. Fremont County Museum Board Chair Tom Duncan of Riverton identified the finalists as Heidi Boyd of Rawlins, Lynn McRann of Lander and Suzanne Warner of Oregon. Boyd is the former director of the Carbon County Museum in Rawlins, McRann is co-owner of City Plumbing in Lander and Warner is the former director of the Yellowstone County Museum in Billings, Mont.
“We had 21 applications for the position,” Duncan said Thursday. The vacancy was advertised nationally through the American Alliance for Museums and regionally through the Colorado-Wyoming Association of Museums. “We had a wide range of applicants, from Ph.D.’s to local residents,” he said.
Duncan said the Museum board ranked the top 10 applicants and seven of those responded favorably. Of the seven, three declined a personal interview in Lander. Of the remaining four candidates, one failed to respond, so the board invited the final three for interviews. Duncan said two candidates were interviewed earlier this week and the final interview is on tap today.
“We’ll meet in a work session on Friday for the final interview and then meet to assign reference checks and make sure we’re not missing anything on Monday,” Duncan said. “We’ll also be confirming the applicants’ respective education credentials.” The decision on whom to recommend as the new director will come at our March 14th regular meeting in Riverton. That recommendation would then be forwarded to the Fremont County Commissioners for approval.
The Lander museum director’s position became open August 22, 2012 when former director Carol Thiese was relieved of her duties.
The Fremont County Museum Board members include Duncan, plus Vice President Steve Banks of Dubois, Secretary John Lane of Lander, Treasurer Butch Tonkin of Riverton and member Carol Chidsey of Lander.
