Lander man killed in Christmas Eve rollover
(Wind River Indian Reservation, Wyo.) – An 18-year-old Lander man died in a single vehicle rollover on Plunkett Road about 11 miles north of Lander early Christmas Eve morning.
According to a crash report from the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Clarence J. Armajo Jr. was killed in the wreck at 7:10 a.m. when he was headed southbound on the road. He was the lone occupant of the vehicle.
“Armajo failed to negotiate a slight right hand curve in the roadway, went into a slide and exited the right side of the roadway,” states the report. “Armajo’s 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix rolled approximately two and one half times. Armajo, who was not wearing a seat belt, was totally ejected from the vehicle during the rollover.”
Fremont County Coroner Ed McAuslan said Armajo was transported to Lander Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead about an hour after the wreck.
“He died from blunt force trauma from the crash,” McAuslan said.
McAuslan said no autopsy would be performed, though biological samples were taken. Results from the samples will take about a week. At this time, McAuslan did not believe alcohol to be a factor.
“Excessive speed is being investigated as a potential contributing factor,” the crash report states.
