(Riverton, WY) – The Board of Directors of Wyoming National Bank announced that, as of December 1st, 2012, the bank’s name has been changed to Wyoming Community Bank. This name change affects the institutions in both Lander and Riverton.
“Our focus now and always has been on the people and businesses of Fremont County,” remarked Kent Shurtleff, President and CEO of Wyoming Community Bank, “so we wanted our name to better reflect that core mission of serving our local, Wyoming communities.”
The structure of Wyoming Community Bank will not be affected by the name change, with no management or employee changes as a result. “We are excited about this change because our customers are all part of our community. We see them in the bank. They are our neighbors. We aren’t national. We are local. Our new name just makes sense,” said Karen Befus, Teller Supervisor, Riverton.
To facilitate its new name, Wyoming Community Bank has modified its banking charter from national to state, changing its regulatory oversight agencies from the OCC to the Wyoming State Banking Commission and the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City which conduct state bank examinations jointly. Loren Podoll, CFO, emphasized that this change does not, however, modify how Wyoming Community Bank will operate internally, “The oversight of the state and Fed is just as rigorous as the OCC, and we will be held to the same tough standards that have helped us achieve the highly rated and respected banking institution we have today.”
Wyoming Community Bank was founded in 1998 and serves the residents and businesses of Fremont County and the surrounding areas. As Fremont County’s only true local bank, Wyoming Community Bank’s President and CEO, along with all of its management, the majority of its shareholders and all but one of its Board of Directors are all Fremont County residents. Wyoming Community Bank has two offices, one located in Riverton, Wyoming on North Federal Blvd., and one in Lander, Wyoming on Main St.
