(Riverton, Wyo.) – The City of Riverton is preparing to evict the operators of the Airport Cafe at Riverton Regional Airport for non payment of rent. The action was taken by the city council following an executive session at the conclusion of the council’s regular meeting Tuesday night.

City Administrator Steven Weaver said the restaurant was “really behind” on payments to the city and efforts to collect had not been successful. “The council voted to proceed with an eviction process. Our next step is to go to court to get an order because the cafe has not paid its rent,” he said. Weaver said the debt owed to the city “was over $5,000.”

“We’ll get the lawyer to draw up the papers for the court and after being served, the restaurant will have three days to respond,” Weaver said.

Restaurant manger Debra Fitzpatrick was not at the restaurant Wednesday morning and was not available for comment. Her staff said she would return Thursday.

The airport cafe is a long time favorite of many Riverton diners and is the only food service available at the airport terminal.
