Captain Murphy returned to duty at the RPD this week after 10 weeks of Army Basic Training at Quantico, Virginia. “It was just like I was 18 again when I went through basic the first time,” Murphy said. “The refresher training was a little bit harder on me this time, but I dropped 20 pounds and I’m in great shape.” Murphy recently found out he had been chosen for Wyoming’s lone slot in the FBI’s Local Law Enforcement Academy, and he’ll leave for a three month training, also in Quantico, at the FBI Academy in July. “It’s the premier law enforcement training center in America and it’s a great boost for my career,” Murphy said. “Chief Broadhead is very supportive of this opportunity for me and he said it was an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up.
The only cost to the city for Murphy’s training at the FBI Academy will be the gasoline for the police vehicle that he’ll travel to the academy in. The FBI provides the training at no cost to the city.
