Grant & Inger Clark received prestigious award from Wyoming Meat Processors Association

Inger and Grant Clark were honored by the Wyoming Meat Processor's Association for their contributions to the industry.

(Riverton) – Grant and Inger Clark, former owners of Clark’s Meat House, a local retail and wholesale meat supplier, received the prestigious “Sharpest Meat Cleaver” award from the Wyoming Meat Processors Association. Every two years the Wyoming Meat Processors Association present this award to an individual or meat processor for “Outstanding Dedication to the Meat Industry.”

Grant and Inger Clark opened their “House of Quality Meats” on the corner of First and Fremont in Riverton in 1963 and continued to build the business through good years and bad until their retirement in 2005. During those years they became founding members of the Wyoming Meat Processors Association, helped established a scholarship program for meat industry focused students, lobbied for Wyoming’s current State Meat Inspection Program, and reached out to numerous meat processors to build a network of like-minded owners to help each other succeed in the meat industry.

Creating and joining the Wyoming Meat Processors Association was not enough, Grant served as President from 1981 to 1992 and Inger worked right by his side to provide both educational and business opportunities to its members. When approached for help by a meat processor in Colorado, they were instrumental in helping establish the Colorado Association of Meat Processors. To strengthen both associations, they assisted in creating a joint annual convention called the “Hands Across the Rockies” that continues to not only bring processors from Wyoming and Colorado together but also engages the Ag Science Programs and students at the University of Wyoming and Colorado State University. When you enter the lobby of the Ag Sciences Building at the University of Wyoming you will see a leather plaque with Grant and Inger’s name on the Scholarship Donors Wheel of Brands.

Upon retirement, many meat plant owners choose to close their doors, liquidate their assets, and leave the industry, but not Grant and Inger Clark. They wanted to see the business they worked so hard to build continue providing quality meats to their loyal customers. Once they found the right buyers, they continued to mentor, support and share their wealth of experience to succeed in the meat industry. They continue as very active members of the Wyoming Meat
Processors Association and have been known to show up at legislative meetings when the need to protect small meat processors arises.

It is because of Grant and Inger’s outstanding dedication and assistance to the meat industry that Riverton continues to provide a great source for quality meats, the Wyoming Meat Processors Association continues to provide support and business opportunities to meat processors across the state, students at the University of Wyoming continue to receive scholarship assistance in the pursuit of their education in the meat industry, and Wyoming’s meat inspection program continues as a state run program versus a Federally run program.

Congratulations to Grant and Inger Clark who deserve to be recognized with a prestigious award for their outstanding contributions to the meat industry, but even more so for their contribution in helping make Wyoming such a great place to work and live.
